50 Mile Info

Registration:Registration is available on-line only through ultrasignup.com beginning November 30th at 7 am. Registration will close July 1 though we expect the event to fill well before then. There are no refunds, transfers, or postponements.

Packet Pickup: We don’t have traditional race packets.  If you ordered a t-shirt you may pick it up Friday at Rogue Valley Runners in Ashland between 3 and 6PM.  It is a great place to hang out with other runners and get pumped for Saturday’s event. We start signing in 50M runners at 5:15am, providing race numbers and chips for timing.  If you didn’t pick up the shirt you ordered on Friday it must be picked up before your race.  There is a separate line for shirt and mug pick up.   We encourage you to drop by our friends at Rogue Valley Runners on Friday to pick up last minute racing needs and running advice from Oregon’s finest running store. Don’t worry, the traditional SWAG will be provided as you cross the finish line!
Directions to the Start: Take the Interstate 5 Mount Ashland exit (exit #6), located 10 miles south of Ashland and 5 miles north of the California/Oregon border. Follow the signs to the ski area located about 8 miles from the Interstate. If driving from Ashland, please allow at least 40 minutes driving time to get there.
Awards: Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each age division as well as to the first man and woman overall. Results will be posted near the finish line. Complete results will be available on the SOB website by the end of race weekend.  Mugs to all finishers.
Age Divisions: Men and Women, 29 and under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over.
Drop Bags Drop bags will be available for the 50 mile at Jackson Gap aid station and Potlicker aid station.
Cutoffs: The following cut-offs are in effect for the 50 mile course. Runners must exit the aid station by the cut-off times listed below or they will be pulled from the event by the aid station captains. Aid station captains have the final word. Runners crossing the finish line after the final cut-off will not be scored in the results. Cut off times apply to the return course after the turnaround:

Early Start: There is no early start.
Pacers: No pacers are allowed however family and friends are welcome to join the runners at the top of Mt. Ashland.

50 Mile Course

The first part of the 50M follows the 50K course to the second time through the Willamette Meridian aid station.  50M runners will have drop bags available at Siskiyou Gap Aid Station for both directions. Leaving the Willamette Meridian aid station you will head north From there we head north on the Split Rock Trail. After 4 miles head down the Wagner Glade Trail to the Potlicker aid station at Road 2060 (drop bags available), then down Potlicker. Potlicker takes you to Horn Gap Road. Head down the road to the Horn Gap Trail. Go up the Horn Gap Trail to 2060, then out 2060 to Time Warp Trail. You will again pass the Potlicker aid station where drop bags are available. Up Time Warp (yes, this is a bitch climb) to the top of Mt Ashland, then a quick jaunt to the finish at the Mt. Ashland Lodge.

AID STATION DESCRIPTION

All aid stations will be stocked with electrolyte drink, gels, water, potatoes, chips, cookies, pretzels, candy and other ultra goodies.

POST-RACE SNACKS AND OPTIONAL LUNCH

Awaiting you at the finish line will be plenty of refreshments plus a hamburgers/veggieburgers.  Please let us know at registration your plans to eat with us or not.  It will help with our planning.

RULES AND TRAIL ETIQUETTE

1. The 50 Mile race begins at 6AM. There is no early start.
2. Numbers must be worn on front and visible at all times.
3. Drop bags for Jackson Gap can be left in the designated area near check in.
4. This is mountain running – the morning may be cool with warm afternoon temperatures – come prepared for anything and you should carry at least one water bottle.
5. The course is marked with pink ribbon. You should never go more than 1/4 mile without seeing the flagging.
6. If you drop from the run, you must notify the aid station captain. If we have no record of you either finishing or dropping, we will be forced to call search and rescue.
7. No pacers are allowed, however, family and friends are welcome to join their runners, on their return, at the top of Mt. Ashland.
8. Dogs are not allowed on the course. Leashed dogs are only allowed in the Mount Ashland parking area.
9. Crews are not permitted to drive on the course.
10. Please NO littering. Help us maintain the beauty of this course. Pack your garbage to the nearest aid station.
11. NO exchanging of bib numbers. Registered runners only. This is critical to the safe tracking of all participants.
12. For safety reasons, no runners will be permitted to start after 6:15AM.
13. We would like to minimize our use of plastic bottles after the race. We will gladly serve
post race beverages into your water bottles.
